Biking for Breast Cancer
Being diagnosed with breast cancer can be a devastating and overwhelming time. The lives of these women and their families are forever changed as they immediately face difficult decisions and hear unknown medical terms. To help ease the journey of over 1,300 breast cancer patients treated at Magee-Womens Hospital of UPMC each year, they are given a comprehensive resource binder to keep all paperwork and materials together. This binder, provided in part through the Josie Scarpaci Breast Health Access Fund at Magee, is compiled from donations in honor of Josie who lost her battle to breast cancer in 1998. Her son, Joe Scarpaci, Jr., has been biking through the years to raise money for this fund. This year he will be biking
325 miles from Blacksburg, Virginia to Magee-Womens Hospital in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania May 13 to 18.
