The story of courage that inspired the event
Four years ago, after Julie suffered crippling abdominal pain and laproscopic surgery to remove an ovarian cyst, we received the life-threatening, numbing news that Julie would begin a battle with ovarian cancer. While searching for information about the disease on the Internet, Julie learned that 70 percent of women diagnosed with ovarian cancer don't survive. Needless to say, she banned herself from the computer for the remainder of her fight with cancer.
Fortunately for us, we placed our trust in Thomas Krivak, MD, a gynecologic oncologist and researcher at Magee-Womens Hospital of UPMC and Magee-Womens Research Institute (MWRI), who discovered Julie's cancer to be contained in one ovary and performed conservation surgery preserving the unaffected ovary and uterus. Dr. Krivak shared his skills with us and as a result, we are blessed with not only Julie's health, but our son, Richard, too.
Please join Julie and me by making a commitment to end ovarian cancer. Support important research conducted by the MWRI gynecologic oncology research team. Watch Julie tell her story below.
