Women’s Health Leadership
Health reform doesn’t happen without confident, knowledgeable leadership. As part of its mission, Magee Womancare International has committed its resources and expertise to strengthening the pool of talented health care professionals throughout the former Soviet Union.
Through training workshops in program management, financial planning, and leadership, MWI’s women’s health leadership programs bring professionals together to enhance their leadership skills; create local, national, and regional networks; and strengthen nongovernmental organization functioning.
How Does MWI’s Women’s Health Leadership Program Work?
Women’s Health Leadership programs involve individuals in pre-departure activities, a 21-day intensive workshop including training in Pittsburgh and Washington D.C., and follow-up activities.

Women's Health Leadership: Creating Change
Prior to their participation in the Women’s Health Leadership, the majority of leaders felt that they were limited to implementation of day-to-day objectives and unable to think strategically or work on the “big picture.” They expressed interest in handling change, time and risk management issues, resolving conflict, thinking strategically, working as a network, and building coalition skills that would be focused on during the training.
Health care leaders who have participated in previous leadership programs have represented Kazakhstan, Ukraine, Belarus, Russia, and other NIS countries. Participation in the women’s health leadership programs has demonstrated to the women that they are — and will continue to be — important change agents in their personal, organizational, and community lives.
