Gandley Research Group
Principal Investigator:
Robin Gandley, PhD
The lab’s primary interest is the role of metals and oxidative stress in hypertension and the vascular adaptation to pregnancy. Other interests include the impact of prolonged low-level exposures to metals, through smoking or dietary supplementation, on cardiovascular function and oxidant status.
Mechanistic studies of essential metals (zinc, copper, and iron) and non-essential metals (lead and cadmium) are critical to accomplishing this goal. The lab’s research combines clinical studies with numerous animal models to examine different mechanistic aspects of these questions.
